Headache case

Gosh!!! I was just marking some of my students' book and one of the new student from primary 2 wrote "Then my father say me"... Ouch... Well... I think he meant "Then my father scolded me" or something like tt... My Gosh... Where do I start from? The basics of English or get him out of his singlish or wat?
